Residential & Commercial
Privacy, pool and pet fences for homes, plus security and perimeter fencing for businesses.
Wood, Vinyl, Aluminum & Chain Link
Four core fence materials and matching gates.
Serving Greater Boston
Boston, Watertown, Cambridge, Brookline, Belmont, Newton, Waltham and Lexington.
A fence is only as good as its installation. The same panels can last decades or start leaning after two winters depending on how deep the posts go, how the footings drain and how the line follows the grade. Installation is where we put most of our attention.
Fence Types We Install
We install four core fence materials, each in several styles and heights, plus matching walk and drive gates.
Wood Fence Installation
Cedar and pressure-treated wood fences in privacy, board-on-board, shadowbox, picket and split rail styles. Wood suits the Colonials, Capes and Victorians common across Greater Boston and can be stained to match the house.
Vinyl Fence Installation
Vinyl privacy, semi-privacy, lattice-top and picket fences that never need painting. Vinyl is a strong choice for backyards where homeowners want privacy with very little upkeep.
Aluminum Fence Installation
Powder-coated ornamental aluminum for front yards, pool enclosures and storefronts. It gives the look of wrought iron without rust, which matters on streets that get salted every winter.
Chain Link Fence Installation
Galvanized and black vinyl-coated chain link for backyards, dog runs, sports fields, schools and commercial lots. It is the most economical way to enclose a large area.
| Fence Type | Common Heights | Main Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Privacy (wood or vinyl) | 6 ft | Privacy, noise, backyard enclosure |
| Picket (wood or vinyl) | 3 to 4 ft | Front yard curb appeal, small pets |
| Ornamental aluminum | 4 to 5 ft | Pools, front yards, open views |
| Chain link | 4 to 6 ft | Pets, sports areas, security |

How We Install a Fence That Lasts in New England
Greater Boston has deep frost, heavy snow, road salt and plenty of old, uneven lots. Our installation process is built around those conditions.
Property Line and Layout
Before any digging, we walk the fence line with you, mark post locations and gate openings, and confirm where the property line runs. On tight lots with shared driveways, which are common in Boston, Watertown and Cambridge, we recommend a survey when the boundary is not clear. Most homeowners install the finished side facing the neighbors and the street.
Dig Safe and Permits
Massachusetts requires a Dig Safe (811) request before digging so underground utilities can be marked. We also check your town's fence rules. Height limits are set by local zoning and are usually lower in front yards, pool fences often need a permit, and homes in local historic districts may need approval for fences visible from the street.
Posts, Footings and Frost
The Massachusetts building code sets the frost depth at 48 inches. When saturated soil freezes, it expands and can lift shallow posts, a problem called frost heave. We set post depth based on fence height, soil and exposure, and use footings that let water drain away from the post instead of pooling around it.
Grade, Gates and Final Walkthrough
On sloped yards we either step the panels or rack them to follow the ground, depending on the material and the look you want. Gates get heavier posts and hardware sized for their width so they do not sag. Before we leave, we check every post, panel and latch with you.

For homeowners, we install privacy, pool, pet and decorative fences on single-family homes, two-families and triple-deckers. For businesses and property managers, we install security fencing, perimeter fencing, dumpster enclosures and ornamental entries, and schedule work to keep disruption low.
What Affects the Cost of Fence Installation
Every fence is priced on your property, not from a chart. These are the factors that move the price the most, so you know what to expect before the estimate.
Material and Style
Chain link is usually the most economical per foot, wood and vinyl fall in the middle, and ornamental aluminum costs more. Within each material, solid privacy styles use more material than open picket or rail designs.
Height and Linear Footage
Taller fences need longer posts, deeper footings and more material. Longer runs cost more in total but usually less per foot, because setup and gate work are spread across more fence.
Gates and Hardware
Each gate adds heavier posts, framing and hardware. Double drive gates, pool gates with self-closing hinges and lockable latches add more than a simple walk gate.
Site Conditions
Slopes, ledge and rocky soil, large tree roots, old fence removal and tight access through narrow side yards all add labor. We note each of these during the on-site visit so your quote has no surprises.
Planning Your New Fence
A few decisions before the estimate make the project smoother:
- What the fence needs to do: privacy, pets, pool safety, curb appeal or security
- Where gates should go and how wide they need to be for mowers, trash bins or vehicles
- Whether you know where the property line is, or need a survey
- Whether your home is in a historic district or near wetlands
- Whether an existing fence needs to be removed first
We go through each of these with you during the free estimate and include them in the written quote.
