Stronger Gate Posts
Gate posts carry the weight and swing of the gate. We use heavier posts and deeper footings at every gate, especially important with Massachusetts' 48-inch frost depth.
Bracing and Frames
Quality Hardware
Heavy-duty hinges, gravity latches, drop rods for double gates and lockable latches where you need security. All hardware is rated for outdoor use so it does not rust out after a few winters.

Choosing the Right Gate
| Need | Recommended Gate |
|---|---|
| Side yard access for mowers and bins | Single walk gate, 4 ft wide or more |
| Driveway access | Double drive gate or cantilever sliding gate |
| Pool enclosure | Self-closing, self-latching gate opening away from the pool |
| Security | Lockable latch, heavier frame and posts |
| Tight driveway with no swing room | Cantilever sliding gate |
What Affects the Cost of a Gate
Width and Weight
Wider and heavier gates need bigger posts, deeper footings and stronger hinges.
Material and Style
Gates are built to match the fence. Ornamental aluminum and framed wood gates usually cost more than chain link.
Hardware
Self-closing hinges, magnetic or gravity latches, lockable latches, drop rods and wheel kits all add to the price.
Gate Care Through New England Winters
- Clear snow and ice from the swing path so the gate is not forced open or closed
- Check that latches still line up after the ground thaws in spring
- Lubricate hinges and latches once or twice a year
- Tighten hardware and re-adjust anti-sag cables on wood gates as needed
Gates Across Greater Boston
Shared driveways in Boston, Watertown and Cambridge often need walk gates on both sides of a yard, while larger lots in Newton, Belmont and Lexington more often call for double drive gates. Pool gates are common everywhere we work.
